4 hours drive from Beijing we will be in a small county Hebei province. There, some ancient traditions are still preserved, such as the iron fireworks. It is one of the most unique cultural phenomenons in northern China. But with the rapid pace of modernization, people seldom pay attention to this unique heritage anymore. For a true explorer, this is a once in a life time experience. The little county locates in the mountains west of Beijing. There used to be a kingdom 25 centuries ago. On this ancient trade route, some very unique tangible and intangible cultural heritage are nicely preserved. The celebration parade on the Lantern Festival still preserves its original form centuries ago. The castles in the small towns are impressive. Some local handicrafts such as paper cuts are famous throughout China.

 

But this trip is only for the adventurous explorers. The little towns in the mountains are so under developed that you do not feel it is only 4 hours drive from Beijing. The fact is there is no one single decent toilet in one of the smalls towns we are going to enjoy the iron fireworks! We will give mask to every to keep us from the dust. Please do not wear contact lens. So please set your expectation right.
